A Statement by the Artist

The figurative idea in the White Light Series of my paintings is an attempt at taking the human figure out of context and stripping them of their identities. The people I create exist in a momentary state of suspended animation, frozen in time in their own private worlds. Their expressions and gestures suggest longing, loss, and at times a frightened guilt ridden disbelief when surprised or confronted with their conscience or the fragile realities of their lives.

In these painting I use dramatic lighting, a limited palette of translucent color glazes and built up layers of paint to create the illusion or suggestion of a textured three dimensional surface.

I have also chosen not to title this series of paintings because I want to engage and challenge the viewers imagination, emotionally and aesthetically, without my help.

In addition to the White Light Series I also like to explore a variety of other subjects and techniques. Therefore, my additional paintings also encompass land and seascapes, portraits and other figurative subjects.
